Kata is a pre-arranged, and rehearsed, series of blocks, punches, and kicks against single and multiple opponents. While some kata are designed to build muscle and strengthen bones, others focus on reflexes and speed. All the kata will enhance rhythm and coordination.
Training kata requires the student to exhibit humility and gentleness, while showing full confidence in their ability to perform. Gichin Funakoshi often reminded his students that “The spirit of karate-do is lost without courtesy”.
